A consultation with Dr. Diacakis, a plastic surgeon in Paris is necessary. 
A pre-operative check-up will be prescribed.  
A consultation with the anaesthetist doctor is compulsory if the operation is performed under general anaesthesia. 
Any medication containing aspirin will be banned 10 days before the operation. 
No coverage is possible by social security or health insurance.  

On the morning of the operation, Dr Richard Diacakis, a plastic surgeon in Paris, makes drawings that will serve as reference points during the operation. Photos are systematically taken.  

Blepharoplasty or aesthetic surgery of the eyelids is most often performed on an outpatient basis. 

Two types of anaesthesia can be offered: under local or general anaesthesia. If a superior blepharoplasty is performed, local anaesthesia is the rule. In the case of lower blepharoplasty the choice of the type of anaesthesia will depend on the “sensitivity” of the patient. 

• Course of an upper blepharoplasty :
  Dr. Richard Diacakis will remove the excess skin according to the drawings made in the patient’s bed. The scar will be in the natural crease of the eyelid.
• Lower blepharoplasty :
  Dr. Richard Diacakis performs in the vast majority of cases the “internal way”, i.e. an incision “inside the eye” in order to remove fat pockets, without visible scarring. By simply removing the fat pockets, a skin retraction occurs almost systematically, thus allowing the eyelid to be smoothed. The “external way”, i.e. when the incision is made flush with the eyelashes, should only be performed for Dr Richard Diacakis, a plastic surgeon in Paris, if there is a lot of excess skin under the eyes. Indeed this last technique can involve certain complications such as ectropion, round eye, refinement of the edge of the eyelashes and reduction in the number of eyelashes. These complications, rare in experienced hands, must still be taken into consideration. 

Discharge is on the same day (outpatient). 
It is strongly recommended that you return home by taxi or arrange for someone to take you home. Public transport is not allowed. 
It is common for swelling, bruising or tearing to appear after surgery, which can last for 1 to 2 weeks.  
A treatment based on eye drops and ophthalmic ointment will be prescribed. 
It is important that you rest and do not make any violent efforts for a few days after the operation.  
Swelling can be minimised by applying ice and tearing can be limited by administering eye drops to the eyes. 

The threads of the eyelids will be removed between the 6th and 8th day. 

From the 15th day onwards, the swelling and bruising will have diminished sufficiently so that those around you will no longer notice it. 

From one month onwards, the result is estimated at 50% and already gives a real “rejuvenation” and radiance to the eyes. 
At 3 months the estimated result is 80% and is considered almost definitive. 
At 6 months the result is considered definitive. 

In certain rare cases of lower blepharoplasty by external route, bruising and oedemas can last 1 to 2 months depending on the individual sensitivity of each patient and the amount of skin detachment that has been necessary.
